A cannabis licence is like a child

Risks are all those things that prevent you from achieving your objectives. If you are a licenced Canadian cannabis producer whose primary activities “relate to cannabis cultivation, processing, production, and distribution” then proactively identifying and treating all the things that could prevent you from cultivating, processing, producing and distributing cannabis should be the only things you worry about.

When you are a licenced producer under the Cannabis Act your licence is your most treasured asset. After your children, your licence is your most important possession. Actually, your licence should be treated LIKE IT IS ONE OF YOUR CHILDREN.

If you are practicing effective risk management (and I don’t mean prescriptive and minimal box-checking compliance under the Act but serious enterprise risk management) then there should be nothing to worry about. On your risk map “Losing your cannabis licence” should be your biggest risk in terms of impact, equally it should be one of the lowest in terms of likelihood because like a parent you put your licence before yourself and never leave it out of your sight.
