It amuses me listening to people talk about risk management concepts when they don’t understand them.
I once attended a meeting of project managers and witnessed a number of these Pretty Mediocre People argue about whether something was a risk or an issue. It almost came to blows. Well, not really, but you know what I mean. As I was engaged by the organization in a process improvement capacity I kept my thoughts and risk management brilliance to myself. While they exchanged verbal sputum I imagined this must be how Clark Kent feels when a drunk bully challenges him to an arm wrestle: there’s a time and a place for the former Kal-El to display his inherent superpowers but 2 AM on a Thursday morning is not the time.
Incidentally, in the original and best Superman movie, there is a risk of an earthquake before Lex Luthor’s missile strikes the San Andreas Fault. After California sinks into the ocean, it’s an issue.
