Lord Voldermort would make an excellent risk manager because when he identifies a risk, he assesses it and treats it immediately. Here are a few of my reasons but I welcome additional examples of his risk management in the comment field below. 1. When the young Voldemort (a.k.a Tom Riddle) learns that he was born [...]

Reputation risk: Is Delta Airlines the Mel Gibson of aviation?

Has Delta Airlines become the Mel Gibson of air travel? As Riskczar.com reported recently, Delta Airlines took a reputation hit because it was charging US soldiers $200 for shelping their four piece of luggage when returning from the War on Terror. Now, they are coming off like anti-Semites. When Delta Airlines took over Northwest Airlines and their [...]
Reputation risk at Delta Airlines

Delta. What were you thinking? When a soldier is coming back from war, nothing says thank you and God Bless America like charging him an extra $200 for a fourth bag (containing his weapon no less). Thanks to the often thankless work that the men and women of the military are doing in Afghanistan and [...]
Ottawa, an earthquake and reputation risk

During a break today, I was taking a look at the headlines at 680news.com. I most enjoyed the irony in the timing of MoneySense magazine’s announcement that Ottawa-Gatineau was ranked as the best place to live in Canada. Because at the same time, a 3.5-magnitute earthquake stuck the Ottawa Valley area. #FAIL
Repuation risk: Losing radioactive material

I like when others try to tell me that reputation risk should be managed. My standard response is good luck: repuation risk is a second-order risk; if you manage your (primary) risks properly then you won’t generate repuation risk. Simple. Hot off the presses is this gem. I mean, if you are going to lose [...]

Have you ever wanted to delete a Facebook “friend” but worried about the risk of them finding out? On the heels of last week’s ”Facebook Unfriend Day” – an idea from comedian Jimmy Kimmel – comes a blog post called THE PERILS OF FACEBOOK ETIQUETTE by Terry Levine of Noggin Advertising in Toronto. (Ironically, Terry had [...]

I found it fascinating to read about the shut down at two Hollywood porn studios after it was learned an adult star tested positive for HIV. I know you’re wondering what might this have to do with risk management? Put this event in the context of your business: two of the biggest studios just shut [...]
Bad logo risk

The Gap got a lot of media (and blog) attention last week for introducing a new Helvetica font logo with a box in the upper right corner which was immediately met with negative public reaction. Some suggested it was designed by a child using PowerPoint. Harsh. While damage was slight, this event will be talked [...]

Last month when Paris Hilton was busted with 0.8 grams of cocaine in her Chanel purse, she defended herself by saying she borrowed the bag from a friend and it wasn’t her coke either. Sadly, the poor little heiress posted a photo on Twitter of a remarkably identical Chanel purse in July with the caption: “”Love [...]
