Here’s a paragraph Michael Rasmussen, President of Corporate Integrity, published in the Linkedin Enterprise Risk Management Association discussion group, that I thought should be re-posted. The sentiment closely resembles the final paragraph in this recent post by your Riskczar. The fact is that I have encountered very few ERM programs that are ERM. Most are nothing more than an expanded view of SOX. This is unfortunate. I have been working on extensive research this past year on risk culture as well as the relationship of risk to performance management (along with Thomas Davenport, performance management guru of Babson College, and…
I’d like to thank Riskviews for sharing this link to State Farm’s site on the topic of volcano risk including what’s covered and not covered. http://www.statefarm.com/learning/disasters/ins_learning_volcano.asp And since you’re here, have a read at this post from Riskviews too: http://riskviews.wordpress.com/2010/04/20/volcano-risk/
Reading Seth Godin’s post about magician, Steve Cohen, made me think about the public’s risk management apathy which is at times frustrating and (please insert some other adjective because all I can come up with is frustrating.) To the many of you who read my posts and follow my Tweets, I suspect you do so because you already believe in the value of risk management or are interested in the topic to begin with. Effectively, you are already thirsty for my intellectual Kool-Aid so it really isn’t too hard to get you to take a sip of my tasty risk…
It’s funny how the slightest typing error can cause so much chaos. Australian publisher destroys cookbook for recipe that called for ‘freshly ground black people’ An Australian publisher is reprinting 7,000 cookbooks over a recipe for pasta with “salt and freshly ground black people.” Penguin Group Australia’s head of publishing, Bob Sessions, acknowledged the proofreader for the Pasta Bible should have picked up the error, but called it nothing more than a “silly mistake.” The recipe for spelt tagliatelle with sardines and prosciutto was supposed to call for black pepper. “We’re mortified that this has become an issue of any…
I had the pleasure of listening to Rick Nason from RSD Solutions and Dalhousie University speak last night at the Fields Institute in Toronto. There have been opportunities to go to PRMIA-sponsored risk management presentations in the past, but I rarely attend for fear that I would be the only person in the crowd who has not memorized everything John Hull has ever written or is carrying an HP 17B. Said another way, I have better things to do than hang out with risk nerds. And therein lies the irony about Rick Nason. On paper he is physicist, CFA and PhD and teaches…
Courtesy BBC Carlsberg workers strike over beer limits Carlsberg workers in Copenhagen have gone on strike against new rules that restrict the amount of free beer they can consume during their working day. Regulations brought in at the start of the month stipulate that workers are no longer allowed beer throughout the day, and can now only drink at lunchtime. Workers claim they were not consulted on the changes, which is why more than 250 have decided to strike in protest. Carlsberg said it would not be reversing the new policy. “Carlsberg has pulled something over the heads of the…
