Scientific Evidence About the Value of ERM

If you are the kind of fellow who enjoys 40-page white papers from academics about the value of enterprise risk management (ERM), then you must read a new paper with the catchy title: “The Value of Enterprise Risk Management,” by Robert E. Hoyt and Andre P. Liebenberg at http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1440947 .

But even without this empirical evidence I could have told you that ERM brings value because it is a process which encourages everyone within your organization to identify where all the bad things are and then makes you do something about them.

I don’t know about you, but I would rather run an organization that knows it has a 1000 risks and 1000 risk treatment strategies than manage an organization which thinks it has no risks at all.
